Calculating Metal Weight

). To calculate the approximate weight of the design we require volume of design product =sq (mm) thickness of metal.

). Hence approximate weight of design = (Volume of the designed product x sp. Gravity of the metal)/ 1000= gm

). We have to add approximate 1 gm of gold for post/push in the earing and 500 mg for the bail or loop in the pendant.

). (a) Wastage of gold in setting jewellery =15% to be added to the calculated gold wt. (b) Wastage of gold in plain gold jewellery = 10% to be added to the calculated gold wt.

). Cost of gold = total gold wt. X prevailing gold rate/gm

). Prices of gemstones Rs. 100-1500 per carat (depending upon the stones and their quality). Diamonds Rs. 6000-10000 per carat(depends on the quality of diamonds).

). Labour charges to be added for individed pieces.

). Cost = add up 5+6+7.

). Over head expenses = 10% of the total cost and profit to be added.
